It's almost time for the Eisenhower Color Run! Last year was our first year to have a fundraiser Color Run for Eisenhower School. It was such a great success that PTA decided to do it again this year. This year our Color Run will take place on April 24th. For the last couple of weeks, students have been raising money and getting donations. As they turn in their donation money, they are earning prizes and color Run gear such as sunglasses, socks, shirts, water bottles, etc. This fundraiser is great for our school because 100% of the profit stays at Eisenhower. This week, we had an extra challenge. The class that brought in the most money on Monday was able to throw color on their classroom teachers. The winner was 5th grade!! Today, those students got to throw powder on Mrs. Heasty and Miss Widen!! Keep collecting money - there's still several more fun challenges coming up! Plus, there are special prizes for the top individual seller in each grade & the top selling grade level.
Today was our March Character Education Assembly. The character trait for this month was "Respect." Dakota was chosen to be our student of the month. He displays respect to his teacher and other adults each day at school. Way to go, Dakota! After the assembly, his reward was ice-cream at Braum's. Yum!! (Pictures courtesy of Sarah, Dakota's mom. Thanks, Sarah!!)
This morning we had "A Morning with Mom" at Eisenhower. All students were able to invite their moms, grandmas, or guardian to share in donuts and juice. Several families took advantage of the Book Fair going on to get a little shopping done as well. Here are a few of the friendly faces I found this morning:
This week in first grade, we celebrated Dr. Seuss - Read Across America Week. Each day of the week, we had a fun theme for dress up days, which coordinated with book titles:
Monday - Cat in the Hat (wear silly hats) Tuesday - Put Me in the Zoo (wear polk-a-dots or stripes) Wednesday - Wacky Wednesday (wear crazy clothes) Thursday - Oh, the Places You Will Go (wear college team clothing) Friday - The Sleep Book (wear pj's) Throughout the week, we read several Dr. Seuss books & did activities in the classroom related to those books. On Friday, we had a guest reader. Mr. Larry Gerwick (Kira's grandpa) came from out of town to read "Green Eggs and Ham." The kids really enjoyed it. Thank you, Mr. Gerwick! At the end of the day on Friday, we had a school-wide read aloud. Each grade level paired up with another grade level to read books. Our class was paired with Ms. Green's 4th grade class. The students had a great time & made some new friends! Last October, Eisenhower Elementary had two 5th grade students place in the 5th - 8th grade Sumner County Spelling Bee! Brett Wyckoff, 5th grader, won second place. Jael Cattlet, 5th grader, won first place. Way to go, Eagles!!
On Friday, Eisenhower gave Jael a pep rally before sending her off to Hays, KS to compete in the state-wide Spelling Bee on Saturday. During the assembly, Mr. Adams held a spelling bee competition between Jael and the 5th grade teachers, Mrs. Heasty and Ms. Widen. Jael won! Then, Mr. Adams issued a proclamation naming March 6, 2015 as "Jael Catlett Day" at Eisenhower Elementary. The fifth grade band ended the assembly by playing a fight song. The students joined in by shouting, GO JAEL!! Good luck, Jael! We're so proud of you. |
