Math games are a fun way to learn our math concepts. The games are also a big part of learning in first grade. Through these games, the students also learn great social skills: how to work with others, how to play fair, how to take turns & cooperate, and how to be a good sport.

How do you make a first grader smile? Just add water and WATERCOLORS!! Today for art, we put away the crayons and brought out the paint! As you can see from their smiles, the students loved using their new watercolors!
Today, our math lesson was math exploration. The students took turns at each center exploring the different hands-on math tools and manipulatives. Our centers included base 10 blocks, geoboards, tangrams, pattern blocks and links, unifix cubes, clocks, and calculators. Who says math can't be fun?!
Sometimes you have to get a little messy! That's what happened today with our spelling lesson. We covered our desks with shaving cream to practice writing our words. Everyone was on task & eager learn! Clean up was a breeze -- the students rubbed in as much as they could, then we wiped our desks with wet wipes. It smelled great in our room & the desks were nice and shiny when we were finished. A win-win for everyone!!
This year, Grandparents Day was celebrated on September 8th. Each student invited their grandparents for a special breakfast of donuts & juice. During our celebration, the students performed a few songs for our guests. They also presented their grandparents with a special art project. Thank you so much, Grandparents, for attending. We enjoyed having you!
