Last month, I read the book Poppy by Avi as a read-aloud in class. The students loved it! Then they wanted to learn more about owls, so we started a unit on them. One of our activities was to dissect an owl pellet online (kid wings.com). After students practiced doing an online dissection, we decided to do a real owl pellet dissection. The students thought this was the coolest lesson ever! They had so much fun finding the bones and digging through the pellets! Look at all these smiles & grins -- isn't science fun?!
This month's character trait was Citizenship. Our student of the month was Harper!! She always has a smile on her face & is willing to help out any way she can! Way to go, Harper!!
Today we did a really fun STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) activity that Mrs. Jessica Seeliger (aka Harper's mom) found for us online. We made Doodlebots - Doodling Robots using pool noodles, markers, rubber bands, and electric tooth brushes. The students had a super time watching their Doodlebots spin around and draw all over their papers. Thanks, Mrs. Seeliger, for coming and helping us with this super fun science lesson!! It was a hit!!
Each day of Read Across America, we had a different dress up day. This was Green Eggs & Ham (our favorite). The high school drama department also came by and did a performance for us about Dr. Seuss. Then they took turns reading books to each class.
